Salem Regional Medical Center is pleased to announce Shannon Miller, Olympic gymnast and ovarian cancer survivor, as the featured speaker for its 2024 Gala on Friday, November 8 at Waypoint 4180 in Canfield. Miller is among the most decorated gymnasts in American history. In 1996, she led the “Magnificent Seven” to the US Women’s first ever team gold and for the first time for any American gymnast, she captured gold on the balance beam.
Additionally, she is the only female athlete to be inducted into the US Olympic Hall of Fame – twice. In January of 2011, Shannon was diagnosed with a rare form of ovarian cancer. She had a baseball sized tumor removed successfully. Shannon has remained open and public about her diagnosis and treatment and continues to empower women to make their health a priority. She is currently cancer-free and continues to be a strong advocate for early detection, awareness, research and survivorship.
Tickets and tables are now available for purchase by calling the SRMC Development office at 330-337-2883 or emailing amy.reed@salemregional.com.

Area residents are invited to learn more about their health by participating in a comprehensive blood screening provided by Salem Regional Medical Center (SRMC) and SRMC Primary Care – Columbiana.
Comprehensive blood screenings can help to identify many health problems in their early stages, when they’re most treatable, and may detect conditions such as high cholesterol, anemia, infections, diabetes and other disorders. Some of the tests included are cholesterol, lipids and triglycerides, red and white blood cells, platelets, electrolytes, enzymes, blood sugar, BUN and creatinine, bilirubin and thyroid function.
Cost of the comprehensive screening is $45. Optional tests available for an additional charge include a prostate specific antigen test for $12 and HgA1c diabetes screen for $28. A lipid panel, which measures cholesterol levels and is included in the comprehensive screening, is available as a stand- alone test for $12.
Participants must provide a self-addressed, stamped envelope at the time of the screening to receive a copy of their results. Screenings begin at 7 a.m. and an appointment is required. To schedule an appointment or for more information, call 330-482-3871.
